Witz is a public event discovery catalog. We design the service around data minimisation: we do not run user accounts on the public site, we do not process payments, and we avoid collecting personal data that is not needed to operate, secure, improve, or answer requests about the catalog.
This notice is intended to align with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the ePrivacy rules implemented in EU member states, and other data protection rules that apply to Witz. Third-party ticketing, venue, organiser, location, and destination pages linked from Witz operate under their own privacy notices and terms.
Controller and Scope
The operator of Witz is responsible for the personal data processed on witz.lol and can be contacted at legal@witz.lol.
This policy covers the public Witz catalog and related pages. It does not cover external ticket sellers, organiser pages, venue websites, embedded third-party services, or social platforms that you choose to visit from Witz.
Personal Data We Process
We may process technical logs such as IP address, request time, requested URL, user agent, referrer, error events, security events, and coarse performance data generated when the site is requested.
We may process interface preferences and discovery state stored in your browser, including theme, language, selected city or country, nearby-location cache, and similar settings used to make the catalog work.
If you contact Witz, we process the contact details and message content you provide so we can respond, keep a record of the request, and protect our legal position if the request concerns a dispute, abuse report, or rights request.
If an event listing contains organiser, venue, performer, or professional contact information, we process that information only as part of publishing and maintaining the public event catalog.
The public site is not intended to collect special-category data, payment data, government identifiers, or account credentials. Please do not send unnecessary sensitive information to Witz.
Legal Bases
We process technical logs, security data, abuse signals, catalog quality data, and basic analytics on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and defending the public catalog, unless those interests are overridden by your rights.
We process contact messages because it is necessary to respond to your request or because we have a legitimate interest in managing communications, enforcing terms, preventing abuse, and handling legal claims.
We process data when necessary to comply with legal obligations, including lawful requests from competent authorities and obligations under data protection, consumer, platform safety, or recordkeeping laws.
Where EU or national ePrivacy rules require consent for non-essential cookies, local storage, device access, analytics, or similar technologies, we rely on consent and allow it to be withdrawn where technically applicable.
How We Use Data
We use data to publish and maintain the public event catalog, load pages, remember basic preferences, route users to relevant city and language views, respond to contact requests, and keep external event links usable.
We use technical and security data to detect, prevent, investigate, and block malicious activity, including credential attacks, spam, denial-of-service attempts, automated extraction, scraping that harms availability, attempts to bypass security controls, and misuse of event or venue information.
We may use aggregated, non-identifying measurements to understand traffic, reliability, and catalog coverage. We do not use public-site activity to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects for visitors.
Location Features
If you use nearby discovery, Witz may use browser geolocation after your browser asks for permission, or may use an approximate IP-based lookup to suggest a nearby city. Browser geolocation coordinates are used to match a city and are not intended to be stored by Witz as a user profile.
Location preferences can be stored in local storage, session storage, or a first-party cookie so the page can keep the selected city, country, or all-events view consistent across visits.
Processors and Recipients
We may use hosting, content delivery, analytics, security, logging, location lookup, email, and professional service providers. They may process data for Witz only under appropriate contractual, confidentiality, and security obligations.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect users or third parties, to investigate or stop abuse, to enforce these terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of Witz.
International Transfers
Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we use appropriate safeguards where required, such as European Commission adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, or equivalent transfer measures.
Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including site operation, security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, dispute handling, and backup integrity.
Browser storage remains on your device until it expires, you clear it, or the site removes it. Security and server logs are retained according to operational need and may be kept longer when necessary to investigate abuse, comply with law, or defend legal claims.
Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.
You may also complain to your local data protection supervisory authority. To exercise rights with Witz, contact legal@witz.lol and include enough context for us to identify the request without asking for unnecessary extra data.
Children
The public catalog is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Some events may have age restrictions set by organisers or ticket sellers, and those restrictions must be checked with the relevant third party.
Third-Party Services
When you leave Witz for a ticket seller, organiser, venue, map, location provider, social platform, or other external service, that third party is responsible for its own cookies, analytics, contracts, payments, refunds, and personal-data handling.
Contact
For privacy questions, rights requests, listing corrections, or abuse reports involving personal data, contact legal@witz.lol.
This policy may be updated as the product, providers, or legal requirements change. The version shown on this page is the current public-site version.
